7 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Web Design Agency in Cyprus

Web Design Agency

Choosing a partner to build your website is a big decision. Your website is your most important digital asset, and the web design agency you hire will be responsible for building it.

How do you know if you’re choosing a true professional or a “cheap” designer who will cause problems later?

The best way is to ask the right questions upfront. As a professional web design agency in Cyprus, we believe in 100% transparency. Here are the 7 questions you should ask any designer before you sign a contract.

1. “Can I see your portfolio and speak to a past client?”

This is the most basic question, but it’s vital. A portfolio shows you their style of work.

  • Look for quality: Do the sites look professional, modern, and fast?
  • Look for local experience: Have they built sites for other businesses in Cyprus? This shows they understand the local market (like the need for a multilingual Greek/English site).
  • Ask for a reference: Any reputable agency will be happy to connect you with a past client. This is the best way to find out what their process is really like.

2. “Who will own the website, domain, and hosting?”

This is the most important question you can ask.

  • The Red Flag: Some shady designers will register your domain name and hosting in their name. This means they hold your website hostage. If you ever want to leave, they can make it difficult or even charge you to get your own site back.
  • The Right Answer: The agency should state clearly, in writing, that you (the client) will have 100% ownership of the domain, the hosting account, and all the website files upon final payment. We, as your agency, are simply given access to build and manage it on your behalf.

3. “Is SEO included, and what does that mean?”

Many “cheap” designers will say “yes, we do SEO,” but all they do is install an SEO plugin. This is not enough.

Ask them to be specific. A professional web design agency should answer: “Yes, our web design service includes a foundational SEO setup. This means we do keyword research for your main pages, write your meta titles and descriptions, structure your headings correctly, optimise your images, and submit your new sitemap to Google so you get indexed properly.”

4. “Is the website custom-built or a template?”

There’s nothing wrong with a template, but you need to know what you’re paying for.

  • A template is a pre-built design that the designer just customises with your colours and logo. It’s faster and cheaper, but less unique.
  • A custom design (what we do) is built from scratch, just for your brand. It’s a premium product, perfectly tailored to your goals.

The problem comes when an agency charges you a custom-design price but just uses a cheap template. Ask them to clarify their process.

5. “What platform do you build on? (And can I update it?)”

The answer for most modern websites should be WordPress.

Why? Because it’s a powerful, flexible, and easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS). This is crucial for you. You shouldn’t have to pay a developer every time you want to add a blog post or change your phone number. The agency should provide training so you can manage your own content.

6. “What is your process for revisions and feedback?”

A good designer doesn’t just disappear and come back with a finished site. They should have a clear, multi-step process for approvals. You should expect, at a minimum, to approve:

  1. The initial wireframe (the blueprint).
  2. The final design mockup (the full-colour design).
  3. The final staging site (the working website) before it goes live.

This ensures there are no bad surprises at the end.

7. “What happens after the site launches?”

A website is not a “set it and forget it” product. Ask about what happens next.

  • Do you offer a warranty? (e.g., a 30-day “bug-fix” warranty is common).
  • What about ongoing support?
  • Do you offer a monthly maintenance plan?

A professional agency won’t just launch your site and disappear. They will offer a plan for security, backups, and updates to protect your investment.
